Forget ‘sexy nurse’ or superhero — once upon a time, Halloween costumes were genuinely terrifying.

My pictures with Dallon and Breezy. May 4, 2013.
A week ago my flight was landing back in Milwaukee after a fabulous 48 hours in Los Angeles. Seeing The Brobecks and my great conversations with these two would have been more than enough to make the trip worth every minute, mile and penny.
seventyninthstreet Asked:
Was the die alone video privated on purpose? D: I wanted to see it haha
My answer:That was definitely not intentional, hahaha.
I fixed it now. Thanks for telling me!

There have been pictures and videos from both shows all over tumblr so I don’t need to tell anyone how wonderful they were. But I’ll write a little about my experience anyway.
I ended up front row center for the first show. When Dallon came up on stage to help with the set change, he looked out at the crowd, did a double-take at me and looked slightly perplexed before saying “Oh WOW! I haven’t seen you in a long time! I can’t believe you’re here!” and came over to give high-fives. I told him that the last time I saw him was 18 months ago and in St Louis, and asked where I traveled from. I told him Milwaukee and he ended up giving a little shout-out later when he introduced the song Bike Ride. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting Dallon to recognize me so it was a complete surprise.
Their set was brilliant and it was so much fun to see Dallon fronting his band, playing his music. He’s so incredibly talented and his complete lack of ‘rockstar’ ego that allows him to go from multi-instrumentalist lead singer to bassist and backing vocalist gives me even more reason to respect him.
After the first show, I went outside to buy Violent Things and introduced myself to Breezy (who was selling merch). We talked a little about how we’re both a kind of insane, and I got a hug when I told her I flew from Milwaukee for the shows (she initiated; I never ask for hugs because I think it makes them really awkward). Then I went to say hello to Dallon since there wasn’t a line by him anymore. We had a nice conversation about The Brobecks, the process that went into these shows, how he’s an old man now, and what it’s like to be a rock and roll dad. And I thanked him for going to the effort to do the shows.
I stayed back a little further for the second show. Once again, it was brilliant. I had positioned myself so that I would be in the right area for when Dallon and Connor came out into the crowd to play Love At First Sight. I’m not sure what was more adorable: Dallon singing the song directly to Breezy or Dallon having the crowd sing the song to her for him.
After the second show I headed back outside and hung around until the crowd started to disperse. Then I went and got a piece of birthday cake. For the record, Breezy didn’t make the cake itself, but she did do the decorations.
When Breezy was done dishing up cake and selling merch I went back over to her and we had a short conversation. She’s awesome, and she’s even more gorgeous in person. We talked about the experience of following/traveling for bands. She used to do it so she completely understands why I do. My friend said “It’s our drug of choice” and Breezy said “Oh, I know exactly what you mean,” motioned toward Dallon and continued “That’s my drug right there. I have constant access so I don’t have to travel for it anymore.”
We ended up talking about the fanbase for a little while too, and I absolutely love her attitude about the whole thing, She thanked me for coming and supporting Dallon, and the fact that I’m from Wisconsin led us to talk about her complete hatred for cold/snow.
Things were winding down so I went over to say goodnight to Dallon. We talked about the second show, and he wasn’t sure how ‘Boring’ went over from the crowd perspective. I reassured him that it sounded great and I appreciated that he tried songs that he had never played before. He thanked me numerous times for coming, and he still seemed kind of amazed that people would go to so much effort to see his band.
Dallon asked if I was excited for the new Panic! album (he brought up P!ATD, I wasn’t going to since I wasn’t there for Panic!) and teased a little about how excited he is and how good the songs were turning out. When he asked if I was going to the fall tour, I told him that the closest show to me is 500 miles away. He started to sound apologetic but I interrupted him to say “Of course I’m going to a show” and he laughed and said “Of course you’ll be there! You’re HERE, What was I thinking?”
I asked him to sign my setlist, and got a picture. Dallon did his best Zack Hall impression to help “make things run more smoothly” and it was hilarious. He thanked me again for coming and excused himself to go help Breezy pack everything up.
Overall, I could not have asked for a better evening. Dallon and Breezy were so sweet and I feel very lucky to have been at the shows. Since I was at both, I’ll point out some differences between them:
- During the 6 PM set, Dallon came down into the crowd to dance during ‘C’Mon Vietnam.’ It was great, and entertainingly awkward.
- Also during the 6 PM set, when Dallon was thanking the crowd he got really sentimental and he actually started to get choked up. I could hear in his voice that he was close to tears. It was incredibly sweet and endearing.
- They played different versions of ‘Die Alone.’ Full band at the 6 PM show and Dallon solo at the 9:30 show. I loved getting to hear the song both ways.
- ‘Goodnight Socialite’ was only played during the 6 PM set and it was pretty epic.
- ‘Visitation of the Ghost’ and ‘Boring’ were only played during the 9 PM set.
I feel so grateful to Panic! for introducing me to Dallon and The Brobecks. I absolutely adore Dallon’s music. And I made sure to tell him as much because I wanted him to know that I wasn’t there because he’s in Panic! at the Disco now. I would not have traveled over 2,000 miles to see Panic! at the Disco’s bassist but I would travel 2,000 miles to see The Brobecks again in a heartbeat.
